There’s a disturbing trend in America. Children are being taught radical, racist politics. Public schools and universities are discriminating against students and staff on the basis of their race. American history is being redefined, Heritage Foundation Senior Fellow Mike Gonzalez and Goldwater Institute Senior Fellow Jonathan Butcher discussed Thursday during a special virtual event hosted by the Institute.
“The organizing principles of society are being dismantled before our eyes,” said Gonzalez, author of BLM: The Making of a New Marxist Revolution.
In fact, proponents of Critical Race Theory (CRT)—a toxic ideology that insists this nation was built on racism and demands that all the events and ideas around us be explain in terms of racial identities—seek to identify traditional values and claim they are part of an inherently racist system.
“This is a feature of Critical Race Theory,” not a bug, said Butcher, whose book Splintered, Critical Race Theory and the Progressive War on Truth, is available for preorder now.
And it’s all happening under the guise of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
From Black Lives Matter protests on the streets to CRT curriculum in the classroom, it seems like a cultural and political revolution has dawned on America overnight. In fact, the roots of this movement have been growing for years, but they’ve only recently reached a tipping point in our country’s public and private institutions.
During the event, which was hosted by Goldwater Director of Communications Mike Brownfield, Gonzalez and Butcher uncovered the truth behind what’s happening in our country and the strategy to upend American values.
“There’s a vision that the radical left has,” Butcher said, to “change the way the United States thinks about the American Dream.”
“They hate capitalism,” Gonzalez added. “They hate individual private property,” he said, noting that proponents of these radical ideas believe values such as hard work and punctuality are “racist.”
Left unchecked, these Marxist dogmas threaten to unravel American unity and cast aside foundational values such as equality under the law and the freedom to earn your place in the world through merit and the fruits of your labor.
That’s why Goldwater’s academic transparency reform is so important – so that parents can see what their children are learning in public schools. That way, they can pull their children out of schools that teach radical political content and place them in institutions that emphasize academic rigor, instead.
Ultimately, Butcher said, it’s important to keep in mind that ordinary Americans do not support the left’s push to transform America as we know it. “This whole movement is being driven by radical activists. It’s not being driven by grassroots,” he explained.
