Giving Tuesday is in full swing, and we at the Goldwater Institute have been heartened so far by the enthusiastic response from our supporters.

Everything we do has real-world consequences for freedom—and that is particularly true of the Right to Earn a Living Act.

The new law has helped people like Lauren Boice, who started a business called Angels on Earth after surviving breast cancer. Her business dispatched licensed cosmetologists to individuals who were homebound because of illness or immobility.

Even though Lauren did not cut anyone’s hair or do anyone’s makeup, the Arizona Board of Cosmetology told Lauren that she needed a salon license and physical space to operate her business. This was red tape for the sake of red tape, bureaucracy for the sake of bureaucracy. It was ridiculous—and it was keeping Lauren Boice from earning a living by bringing together a willing buyer and willing seller of an essential—and beautifying—service.

Thanks to the Right to Earn a Living Act’s enactment, such bureaucratic absurdities are relics of the past in Arizona. Now it’s time to take this nationwide.

The potential of the Right to Earn a Living Act is enormous. Entrepreneurs and businessmen and women face a dizzying array of regulations: in fact, over one-third of Americans must obtain an occupational license—a permission slip from Big Brother in order to work.

It’s time to give these ambitious would-be entrepreneurs and small businesspeople the gift of economic freedom!

Your tax-deductible gift today will earn you the lasting gratitude of those determined and hard-working men and women who want their piece of the American Dream . . . which they can achieve with the Right to Earn a Living.

So please, observe this Giving Tuesday with a tax-deductible gift of $100, $250, $500, $1,000, or whatever you can afford.
